The Medway Valley task days are weekly – Tuesdays from 09:45 – 15:00.
You can attend as frequently as you would like.
Why do we need you?
To aid in the restoration and management of important chalk downland reserves through removing invasive non-native species and encroaching scrub. This will allow nationally scarce plants such as ground pine, man orchid and fly orchid to flourish, as well as butterflies such as adonis blue, grizzled skipper and small blue.
What will I be doing?
Autumn/Winter
- Scrub clearance
- Coppicing
- Regrowth and bramble cutting
- Non-native species removal
Spring/Summer
- Infrastructure repairs
- Fencing
- Weed control
- General flora & butterfly surveys
What experience is needed?
- No previous experience required
- Enthusiasm
- You should be happy to work outdoors in all weathers
- Willing to work as part of a team
- A passion for nature and wildlife
- You will need to be fairly physically fit as some of the reserves have rough terrain, tussocks, boggy ground etc. that you need to be able to negotiate.

No experience is required, full training is given and you’ll only be asked to do what you are comfortable with. There is also the potential to receive further training such as leadership training, brushcutter use and first aid.

Where is the role based?
On reserves in the Medway and Maidstone area - Culand Pits, Blue Bell Hill, Burham Down.
Other things to consider
This role is currently only open to those over the age of 18
Ideally you need the ability to get to the reserve, of which most are accessible by car. (Reasonable mileage expenses can be claimed.)
