Blue Influencers Scheme - St Peter's Primary

Campaigning, Clothes and Circular Economies: St Peter's Primary Leads by Example

If you think primary school pupils can't influence the world around them, think again.

The Year 6 Blue Influencers at St Peter's Primary proved that age is no barrier to making a difference.

Inspired by their local coastline and regular Beach School experiences, the pupils explored the challenges facing wildlife, climate and their community before deciding they wanted to take action.

Their ideas came thick and fast.

They wrote postcards and letters to their local MP, sharing their concerns about climate change and nature recovery. They discussed how better public transport could help both families and the environment. They explored the surprising impact of fast fashion after meeting eco-poet Leah Thorn and quickly realised that choosing what we wear can also help protect the planet.

The result? A school clothing drive supporting Dover Swap Shop and encouraging families to reuse, repair and recycle rather than throw clothes away.

The group also invested in improving Beach School resources and the school's wellbeing garden, ensuring future pupils would continue benefiting from outdoor learning and nature connection.

Perhaps the greatest achievement wasn't any single activity but the confidence pupils developed to speak up for the things they cared about.

They showed that protecting nature doesn't always require grand gestures. Sometimes it starts with writing one thoughtful letter, donating one unwanted jumper or encouraging someone else to make a small change.

And when lots of small actions come together, they can have a remarkably big impact.
