High Downs
The High Down volunteer team has spent the last part of the winter season finishing off coppice and ride works at Yockletts Bank, Spong Wood and Quilters Wood. There has also been a lot of fallen trees to deal with, particularly at Broadham Down and Spong Wood.
The biggest project of the season has been extending one of the glades at Yockletts Bank, creating a coppice block to the north of the main glade, effectively doubling the amount of open space available.
New signs have gone up around Yockletts, directing visitors away from blocked paths and replacing the main reserve boards with shiny new signs. The High Downs group is led almost entirely by volunteers, with the formidable Geoff and John taking the group from strength to strength.
