Vauxhall Lakes Practical Team Volunteer

Vauxhall Lakes in Canterbury is an exciting site that has recently come under Kent Wildlife Trust management. Once a Field Study Centre and nature reserve, it has been closed for many years creating wonderful opportunities for wildlife, including beavers who are already creating a rich variety of habitats and boosting biodiversity.
We are now inviting volunteers to be part of the next chapter!
Join our friendly, enthusiastic team of volunteers and staff, working alongside the wildlife to continue transforming Vauxhall Lakes. The site will play an important role within the community as a place where people can connect with and learn about nature.

Location: Canterbury
  • Commitment: Every other Monday

  • Frequency: Fortnightly

  • Location: Vauxhall Lakes

Things to Consider:

Every other Monday is task day which starts at 9.00AM. The site can only be accessed with a Kent Wildlife Trust warden. So please contact the warden if you are likely to be late.

This role is only open to applicants over the age of 18.

You can attend as often as you would like

Wear old clothes, waterproofs and strong shoes, wellies may also be needed

Bring a drink and a packed lunch

Autumn/Winter

  • Scrub clearance
  • Coppicing
  • Invasive species removal 
  • Footpath restoration

Spring/summer

  • Site infrastructure
  • Furniture repairs
  • Path maintenance
  • Surveying

Year Round

  • Habitat creation
  • Creation of community spaces
  • Site repairs
  • Footpath works

Experience, knowledge and skills needed for this role:

  • No previous experience required
  • You should be happy to work outdoors in all weathers
  • Willing to work as part of a team
  • Enthusiastic 
  • A passion for nature and wildlife 

No previous experience is required, full training is given and you’ll only be asked to do what you are comfortable with. There is also the potential to receive further training such as leadership training, brushcutter and first aid. This is a great opportunity to learn and develop new skills
