On the 26th June, we stood alongside thousands of people, organisations and groups from across the nation outside parliament to call on MPs to take urgent action on the environment and climate emergency. #TheTimeIsNow mass lobby mission was to ask MPs for two key things: a stronger Environment Act than the one currently drafted by government and a clear plan for how they will meet the UK’s net zero carbon emissions target by 2050.
Charities, schools, community groups, and individuals made their way to Westminster and at 2pm alarms rang to signal that time to take action for our natural environment is now. Three Kent MPs made their way out to the sunny streets to speak with constituents – Tracey Crouch, Damian Green and Rosie Duffield – and we were able to speak with Helen Whately in Westminster Hall. It was a shame that more weren’t able to join us in line to stand up for nature.
As our Chief Executive Evan reflected when the alarms went off: “We can’t wait; we need action now. The time is now.”
Here at Kent Wildlife Trust, we continue to call on our MPs to stand up for nature and talk to us about the natural solutions we can recommend in working towards a Wilder Kent and a Wilder Future.
