Stitching Together a Greener Future: a:dress Leads the Way
The most powerful projects don't need adults leading from the front.
The young people behind a:dress had already built an inspiring youth-led movement promoting sustainable fashion and environmental action. Blue Influencers simply helped give their ideas a little extra wind beneath their recycled wings, along with a funding boost.
Support was intentionally light-touch, allowing young people to remain firmly in charge while opening doors to new opportunities. Rather than directing the project, Blue Mentor support focused on connecting people, developing partnerships and helping ambitious ideas become reality.
One exciting highlight saw the group travel to London for a professional video workshop, where they created a short documentary exploring sustainable fashion and environmental issues. Along the way they developed filmmaking skills, confidence and an impressive ability to explain why your favourite old jumper deserves a second chance.
Behind the scenes, another important piece of work was taking shape.
Working together with Leah Thorn, the young people successfully secured £5,000 in funding to expand the project even further. The funding will support new educational resources, peer mentor training and facilitation skills, enabling participants to inspire schools and other young people across Kent.
Perhaps that's what makes a:dress so special. The project isn't simply encouraging sustainable fashion, it is creating the next generation of young environmental leaders, ready to share their knowledge, support their peers and prove that meaningful change often starts with ordinary people doing extraordinary things together.
Fashion trends may come and go, but empowering young people to lead? That's always in style.
