Everyone knows that goats love causing mischief by eating the washing and other things they shouldn’t. Ours are also mischievious - one has a habit of jumping out of the wood to snack on fast food leftovers.
Overall though, this group tend to stay focused on nibbling on the trees. Eating the twigs and branches, bark stripping and even ring barking older trees means that, over time, they are slowly revealing other habitats that used to be present on this site such as heathland and open grasslands. They do all of this without damaging the ancient archeology under the soil from the days of the Romans and even earlier. Instead of people cutting and pulling out the trees to create this amazing mixed habitat, these goats remove the trees slowly and without disturbing the world below ground - they are the perfect time team!
Our goats have favourite places at different times of year. They love sunbathing in open clearings during the summer and tucking up in the bottoms of the trees in the winter. Their mixed colours allow them to blend seamlessly into the woodland floor. They have a shelter but they hardly ever use it, preferring to be out in nature as much as possible. They all have their best friends within the group so you always tend to see the same ones close to each other each time you visit.
