I’m a children’s author from East Hertfordshire in the UK. I’ve been writing books for ten years and have over fifty published titles, from reading scheme books for young children through to lengthier novels for teens. My latest piece of work - a brand new picture book about bison - is inspired by the Wilder Blean bison wilding project in Kent. I’m keen to write a fun story but also one that explains some of the benefits to the ecosystem that the bison bring. The project has been voyage of discovery for me, but there is also a sense of responsibility—I want to get my facts right!
I have been working closely with the team at Kent Wildlife Trust, and we agreed it would be lovely for some local children to have some input. After all, children will be the ones reading the book! Last month, I was able to spend two whole days at the wonderful Herne C of E Infant and Nursery School, just a few miles from Thornden Woods, where the bison have been introduced.
