The Dover reserves team have been busy recycling gates at Lydden Temple Ewell and using them to replace old gates. They have also started cutting alexanders at Dover Castle where the plant has taken over a significant part of one of the compartments. It is messy and back-breaking work, especially in the hot weather. However, the team have been doing a great job to get the areas cleared before the plants start seeding.
6 Highland cattle have returned to Old Park Hill so checkers at Gorse Hill have taken on extra days to cover the checks on both sites which is greatly appreciated. If anyone is interested in livestock checking in Dover, please get in contact. The Dover Castle checkers were busy giving the sheep a feed during their checks to prepare them to be taken off site to be sheared. The steep moat slopes in Dover Castle means the sheep cannot be rounded up easily and need to be trained to come to a bucket of feed. Our Livestock manager, Mike Keeley, was able to get the sheep off site easily without any hassle. Thanks to the checkers for their help!
