Update from Simon Bateman-Brown, Estates Manager at Kent Wildlife Trust
-
Tree harvesting works have begun at West Blean. These works are concentrating on the Planted Ancient Woodlands, where the nom-native pine are slowly being removed to allow more light into the woodland, thereby enabling native species to germinate and also improve the ground flora. The works will also include some chestnut coppicing and oak thinning.

Coppicing works have also begun in East Blean, where the chestnut coppice is being cut on rotation to allow for a varied range of age and light levels through the coppice woodland. This variety is brilliant for woodland species and will help the site to become an even better habitat for wildlife.
