The Roadside Nature Reserve (RNR) project was founded in 1994, is funded by Kent County Council (KCC) and has just under 150 RNRs throughout Kent. Most of these verges are managed by KCC, the ones that are safe to work on are managed by three volunteer groups that cover the county. Volunteer practical volunteers are key to the project. These verges are fantastic wildlife corridors that help to connect habitats so that species can move through the landscape. They also provide protection for important species and habitats. 

Why do we need you?

The sensitive management of our RNRs is not possible without volunteer help. With a lot of sites to cover in a year the more volunteers we have the better!

A day in your life might include

• Litter picking
• Cutting and raking grassland
• Scrub regrowth control
• Putting up signs and posts
• Botanical and general surveys
• Orchid counting

Experience and Skills needed for this role

• No previous experience required
• Enthusiastic
• Willing to work as part of a team
• You'll need to enjoy meeting new people

Considerations

The volunteer role is open to applicants over the age of 18.

Tasks run from 10-3pm but you can stay for as long as you like and come as often as you like.

Swale tasks run two Fridays in a month.
