Family Safari: Bat Detecting
Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve and Jeffery Harrison Visitor Centre,
Bradbourne Vale Road, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN13 3DHAbout the event
Aimed at budding young conservationists and wildlife enthusiasts, don't miss this chance to discover some special creatures that live at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve- ones that only come out as night falls!
After learning how to use a bat detector, you'll join the Reserve Warden to explore in the dark, see what you can spot, and look and listen for clues to help you identify the species.
Please be aware that bats are particularly affected by wet or windy weather, it may be necessary to postpone at short notice if the conditions on the day mean bats won't be flying.
Tickets for this event have been released early for Kent Wildlife Trust members. Please enter your promo code to release member tickets. Tickets will be available for general sale from 27th August.
This event is intended for children and their accompanying adults as a fun introduction to bat detecting. We are also running a Bats of Sevenoaks Wilder Kent Safari on 18th September, which will give adults a more in-depth look at bat species on the reserve, with a much smaller group and more complex content. It is suitable for beginners as well as those with some existing knowledge, and is recommended for any adults looking to attend without children.
The event will last approximately 2 hours and most of the time will be spent walking or standing. Much of the route follows surfaced paths, but these can be muddy. Ensure you wear sturdy footwear (during periods of wet weather waterproof footwear is advisable) and clothing suitable for the weather conditions.
Toilet facilities will be available at the Visitor Centre at the start of the event. No refreshments will be available to purchase on site, but you are welcome to bring your own food and drink with you and a bottle of water is recommended.
