Its dedicated team of volunteer advisors managed to visit almost all 185 entries and 77 ‘Gold’ plaques will be presented at events across the county in November. In addition, this year’s ‘Special’ award winners are:

It’s National Wild about Gardens week and Kent Wildlife Trust is delighted to announce the results of its Wild about Gardens awards scheme 2014.
The 2014 Wild About Gardens awards scheme results have been announced
- Best Wildlife Garden in Kent - Vincent & Sam Lloyd of Folkestone;
- Jewel in the Town (best urban wildlife garden) - Brenda Brewer of Maidstone;
- Top of the Plots (best productive wildlife garden) - Trevor Burton of Eastry;
- Best Garden for Bats - sponsored by Kent Bat Group - Ian Wolverson of Ashford;
- Garden with the Best Buzz - sponsored by Bumblebee Conservation – Gwen Richardson of Ashford
- Best Garden for Reptiles and Amphibians - sponsored by Kent Reptile and Amphibian Group - Rebecca Roberts of Paddock Wood;
- Cool School for Nature - sponsored by Southern Water – Parkside, Canterbury;
- Best Community Wildlife Project - sponsored by Southern Water - The Garden Gate, Cliftonville;
- Best Waterwise Wildlife Garden - sponsored by Southern Water - Richard Goodenough of Crundale.
Competition coordinator, Maureen Rainey, says: “This is my 7th year organising Wild about Gardens and I've met some amazing people with wonderful wildlife havens - not all country acres!
"Some are tiny urban plots, but they are all equally valuable in providing much needed stepping stones to enable wildlife to move around our increasingly built up county.”
