Queendown Warren Practical Team Volunteer

Multiple locations:
Queendown Warren, Warren Lane, Hartlip, Stockbury, near Sittingbourne, Kent, ME9 7XH
At Queendown Warren you will help with removing scrub and improving the chalk grassland for butterflies and wildflowers. Rotational scrub and woodland coppice and ride management to encourage breeding birds such as Nightingale and Turtle Dove, along with orchids and Adders.

Please note: Tuesday is task day from 10.00AM - 3.00PM and you can come as frequently as you would like. This role is only open to applicants over the age of 18.

A day in your life might include:

Spring & Summer 

  • Footpath maintenance
  • Fencing
  • Weed control
  • Orchid and butterfly counts

Autumn & Winter 

  • Scrub cutting
  • Coppicing
  • Regrowth cutting
  • Ride and glade cutting

Experience and Skills needed

  • No previous experience required
  • You should be happy to work outdoors in all weathers
  • Willing to work as part of a team
  • Enthusiastic 
  • A passion for nature and wildlife

Working alongside other volunteers in the enhancement of chalk grassland and woodland habitats. You will improve your fitness and your mental wellbeing by working in nature with like-minded people.

No previous experience is required, full training is given and you’ll only be asked to do what you are comfortable with. There is also the potential to receive further training such as leadership training, brushcutter and first aid.
